2011 Christmas party

Well the year has come and gone, and we have had some wonderful times together as a club. The annual Christmas party was loads of fun, with great food (thanks to Steve Worsley and the talents of the great cooks that brought dishes for the pot luck),great entertainment (thanks to Darell Conrad and Larry Web), and a fantastic place to have the party (again thanks to Darell and his wife Linda Conrad). The annual elections for new officers was held and Jim Davenport was elected as our new President for the upcoming year. His son Chris Davenport will be our Vice President,and Rodger Conners has graciously accepted another year as our Treasurer.
   It has been a great year serving as your President this past year and I am looking forward to seeing all of you this coming year. Thanks to all the members that has helped with the events this past year and remember that a club is no stronger than the membership. So lets support our new President with the events that will be happening this coming season.

TECH: High amp 6 volt to 12 volt regulator

With all the advantages of a 12 volt system in your 6 volt car, here is a simple way to make an inexpensive regulator that accommodates the variable amp draw that things like radios, gauges, and heater motors have. Yeah, I know it looks intimidating but if you look at the pictures and study the schematics you can do it. I built one and it works great and I am electonically challenged. I used a heat sink out of an old computer
and bought the components at Central Utah Electronics Supply at 735 S State Provo, Utah.

DON PENDERGRASS AND HIS 41 CHEVROLET

The year was 1970, Don was looking for a project car to show his talents as a body and fender expert. When he heard of a 1941 Chev Master Deluxe Convertible sitting behind a miners shack in Sunnyside Utah which is up in the mountains east of Price. He and his friend Gale Hansen got in their truck and with a trailer behind, they head to Sunnyside to find this car. Upon arrival to the old shack they are taken to the resting place of  what was once a car, but now was a rusting hulk of a body that looked as though it had been pushed there with a D9 Cat and left to return back into the elements from which it was made.
Don offered the old miner $15 for the hulk and it was gladly accepted. Now the task of getting it on the trailer lay ahead. With much effort the "CAR" was finally loaded, but not before the cowl section fell off due to rotted out subrails.Getting it home and safely in his shop the real work began.
   The front sheet metal was found in an apple orchard in Orem (there were a few orchards left in 1970) from a 41 coupe that Don puchased for a parts car. But the all important Chassis, unique to the Convertible proved to be more elusive. Finally after much searching one was located from Hemmings Motor News in Redding Oregon. A deal was made and off to Oregon he went to get the backbone he so desperately needed. An engine was located and rebuilt by Carl Furr and Lindsey Strasburg and now with all the major parts collected, it was time to get down to the task of resurrecting this pile of parts. Little did Don know that THAT would be a 35 year project.
 The following pictures show the "CAR" as it was found and the Absolutely stunning finished automobile with all the correct accesories added. Well done Don. It was certainly a labor of love and dedication that ressurected that rusty hulk of 1970 into the beautiful "AUTOMOBILE" that it is today. "THAT'S IT" you should name it "LAZARUS" as it was indeed brought back from the dead.

COLOR TOUR'S MAPLE CANYON REVISITED

The weather on the day of the color tour was pretty stormy and the clouds hung so low on the canyon walls that you couldn't see them. So Sharon and I decided to ride down the next weekend to see just how unique this canyon really is. We took a few photo's to show the beauty of  the area.

This was at the benches that we scooped snow from the week before. What a difference a week makes


































We walked a little ways up Box Canyon. Which is just a slot in the north canyon wall below the bridge.

2011 COLOR TOUR


Our 2011 annual color tour was scheduled for October the 8th this year. Little did we know that Mother Nature had scheduled an early winter storm to coincide with our plans. We not only had the Reds and Golds of fall but also WHITE joined the color palette this year. The day was cold and overcast as we headed out of Springville City park around 10:20 am. The group included:  Fred and Travis Jackman,  Rod Jackman and his Son, Steve Worseley and riding shotgun with him was Norm Castle. Norm & Sharon Hampton,who brought along Norm's sister Shauna Nielson. Chet and Linda Roskelly and Prospective members Kent and Karen Friant. A hardy bunch I must say.We drove the old highway from Springville to Santaquin where we stopped at the Maverick store for HOT! Chocolate and goodies. From there we jumped onto I-15 to go to Nephi. Leaving I-15 at Nephi we headed up Salt Creek canyon and on to Fountain Green arriving at the Beautifully restored home of Riley and Sue Player. For those of you that was at our Summer Barbeque they are the folks that brought the hand crank  freezer and served the delicious ice cream for dessert. Their home was built around 1885 and they have done a marvelous restoration to bring the opulence of that period back to life. After a cup of wonderful hot spiced cider and a tour of their home, Riley took us into his shop out back and showed all his collection of cars and parts that he has spent many years to acquire. Being an avid fan of  SALT FLAT racing he has alot of memorabilia and early flathead racing parts. As luck would have it, Rod was having issues with coolant leakage in his car so he and Fred decided to return home. With Riley and Sue leading, we made our way to Maple Canyon just south of Fountain Green. Unfortunately the clouds were hanging so low on the cliffs that you couldn't see the unique beauty of this incredible canyon. When we arrived at our picnic site and we scooped a few inches of snow off the tables, Steve surprised us when he opened the doors of  his Model A Panel and served us a piping hot meal of delicious Lasagna with all the trimmings,that he had brought in his hot boxes. That sure beat the cold sandwiches that we had brought on this chilly day. Thanks Steve it was wonderful. After a great meal it was time to head back. So in spite of the weather and a little antifreeze loss from Rod's car, a few hearty souls, got together,braved the weather and had a great color tour. I only see smiles on everyone so we must be having a good time!!
